Introduction
The Civil War was the first American war to be
photographed.
This is so important. It takes us closer to this war than
if we only had written documents from it.
Thanks to photographers such as Alexander Gardner, we can see
those difficult moments that people went through, during the bloodiest war of
American History.
Alexander Gardner knew how to show the pain that the
Civil War had caused to so many people.
His pictures of dead soldiers make us almost feel the
pain of the war.
We also have those portraits of Abraham Lincoln, which
are so important for the history of this country.
With his pictures of landscapes, Gardner, showed us the
destructive power of the Civil War.
And of course, for those people who love American
History, Gardner left them a valued treasure.
